Frequently Asked Questions

Are you a transport company or just a freight agent, who actually transports my car?

We are QLD Car Carriers Pty Ltd (ABN: 99 609 512 245) trading as Western Vehicle Movers. Western Vehicle Movers (WVM) is a family owned & operated transport company based at Logan Village, QLD. We have been in the transport industry for over 30 years & are a trusted name within car carrying industry. We operate a fleet of car carrier semi-trailers capable of carrying 6-7 cars at a time.

To allow us to continue to provide one of the best value-for-money services in the industry we have access to numerous depots throughout QLD & Australia thanks to trusted business partners. We will also use trusted local fleet operators to perform pick-ups & deliveries where semi-trailers aren’t an appropriate solution or we don’t perform the work ourselves.

In most instances we will be the ones transporting your vehicle. However, if we do subcontract out any element of a job, we only use trusted & proven subcontractors from among the most reputable operators in the industry.

Where do you operate, do you deliver & how long does it take to get there?

  • Standard Lanes: We operate return trips weekly out of Brisbane to Adelaide, Cairns, Melbourne & anywhere in between. For anywhere else feel free to contact us & we’ll see if we can help. We have a network of affiliate carriers right across Australia & can probably recommend someone if we can’t do it ourselves.
  • Depot vs Door: We offer Depot-to-Depot (cheapest option), Door-to-Door (most expensive option) & any combination of the two (i.e. Door-to-Depot or Depot-to-Door). In some cases the semi-trailers may not be allowed to come into your area or address so it may be a case of meeting them at a nearby location where they can safely & legally load.
  • Transit Times: Allow up to 10 working days from Brisbane to either Adelaide, Cairns or Melbourne & up to 20 working days to go either Cairns-Adelaide or Cairns-Melbourne (or return). Once booked we can give you a more accurate time frame with actual transit times usually 3-7 days less than those stated here.

What is the process of transporting a vehicle with WVM?

The simplest & most efficient way to arrange for your vehicle transportation (referred to as a “Job”) through WVM is by following these easy steps:

  1. Quote: If you haven’t used us before you will probably want a quote for your Job first, simply click on this link to our Quote page, fill out the form as best you can & we’ll give you a call & take care of the rest.
  2. Booking: If you have used our services before & simply wish to book another Job with us then click on this link to our Booking page, fill out the form & we’ll give you a call to discuss any final details & confirm your quote.
  3. Payment: You can pay for your Job at a time most convenient for you via bank transfer. Please note however that we don’t release vehicles for collection from a depot or delivery to your door until the job is paid for.
  4. Sending Your Vehicle: If we’re collecting your vehicle we will contact you a few days beforehand & then again either the day before or the morning of the collection to arrange a suitable time pick-up your vehicle. Otherwise you would simply drop your vehicle off to one of our depots during business hours.
  5. Receiving Your Vehicle: If we are delivering your vehicle you will be contacted the day before the delivery to arrange a suitable time for delivery & then again as the truck approaches at the agreed time. Otherwise you will be notified when your vehicle has arrived at the receiving Depot for collection.

Am I able to put some personal items in my vehicle?

Yes…unlike many operators we allow personal items in the vehicle as a matter of convenience at no extra charge (as per our Terms & Conditions). However, we do ask that you note the following:

  1. Items should weigh no more than 150kgs in total;
  2. The driver’s seat & front passenger seat should be left vacant. Nothing is to be placed on the floor behind the driver’s seat. The driver’s seat must be able to move completely backwards & forwards without interference;
  3. No items are to be above the window line or obstructing the view through any mirrors; &
  4. Personal items inside the vehicle are NOT covered by our insurance policy.

My vehicle is modified & has some accessories fitted, is that ok?

Yes…for the most part it shouldn’t be a problem. The issues mainly arise when the modifications change the dimensions of the vehicle (i.e. height, width or length) or make the vehicle lower to the ground.

If your vehicle has less than 120mm ground clearance at any point, is higher than 2.1m at any point, is longer than 5.5m or wider than 2m than you need to let us know prior to booking so that we can let you know if there will be any additional charges.

If you don’t tell us about any modifications & we go to collect the vehicle we’ll make a decision as to how to proceed once we assess the situation. This may include cancelling the job, additional charges, or rescheduling the Job.

If you’re not sure if there’ll be a problem it’s best to mention it when talking to us & we’ll do whatever we can to find a transport solution for you.

Do you transport vehicles that aren’t registered, don’t run or have been damaged?

Yes…however we treat these on a case-by-case basis. Depending on what is wrong with the vehicle will determine if we can perform the job. The below is a general guide however it’s probably best to give us a call to discuss your requirements:

    • Unregistered: If the vehicle has simply ran out of registration but is roadworthy then it should be fine.
    • Won’t Start: If it’s something simple such as a flat battery then providing you let us know about it we may be able to address the problem ourselves (e.g. jumpstart) or make arrangements to have it collected by a tilt-tray & brought back to our depot to be loaded.
    • Damaged: This really does depend on the extent of the damage. If it starts, drives, isn’t leaking any fluids & there’s no likelihood of anything falling off the vehicle during transit then it should be fine. You should try to provide us with photos of any damage to the vehicle so we can get a better understanding of your requirements.

Do you have insurance & what happens if my vehicle is damaged?

Yes…your vehicle is covered for damage or loss for a value up to $60,000 whilst in our care. You would require to provide your own insurance if your vehicle is above $60,000 or over 20 years old, It is our expectation to deliver your vehicle to you in the same condition as we received it, if however you believe this isn’t the case then we will work with you to investigate the matter subject to the relevant clauses outlined in our Terms & Conditions which you should be familiar with prior to booking.

What are your Terms & Conditions?

Our terms & conditions list all the legal matters that may arise in the process of transporting vehicles. They outline both the implications of certain events occurring & the process that should be followed as a result. Please be sure to read over our Terms & Conditions prior to booking your vehicle with us so that you understand your rights & responsibilities should something unforeseen happen.
